The Gift of Intimacy

John 15:15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.

I sat down to write about the fruit of the spirit vs the fruit of flesh (Galatians 5). But in processing my thought I was struck by another: the gift of Intimacy.

We filthy, fleshly humans are invited into God's kingdom, where it would be enough to be a servant (Luke 15:17). And the Lord, Creator of the Universe, GIVES us the opportunity to be his FRIEND, BROTHER, SON and so much more. What a joy! We can be intimate with the King of Kings, abide with him and His Holy Spirit abide in us. In a way the fruits of the Spirit are just a by-product of intimacy. How shockingly simple that it all starts with accepting an invitation of friendship and the rest follows. I think it is so simple that we overcomplicate it when really it is so easy. So let us rest in intimacy with Jesus. May we not take it for granted or even use it as a tool to bear fruit. May we be satisfied in Him.
